BNY Mellon Wealth Management has hired private banking veteran Susan Traver to head up its new office in downtown Washington, D.C., its first in the nation’s capital. The new office is part the wealth manager’s push to be in the top 10 U.S. wealth markets.

Traver was formerly regional managing director for Wells Fargo Private Bank in Washington. Prior to that, she served as managing director and head of sales and marketing for Rockefeller & Co., a large multifamily office with locations in New York and Washington. “Having Susan join us to head our expanding D.C. presence is part of a long-term strategy to better serve clients we already have in the region and to attract new clients,” said Timothy Tully Jr., president of U.S. Markets-East for the wealth management business, in a press release.

BNY Mellon has been beefing up its wealth management unit lately. It also announced the appointment of Penny Weeks as regional director for private banking in New England. She will be based in Boston, the eighth largest U.S. wealth market and the headquarters for the BNY Mellon’s wealth management business.

Weeks, a private banking veteran joined BNY Mellon last month from Northern Trust where she was a senior vice president and private banking team leader. She will report to Erin Gorman, leader of the private banking business in New England and managing director of the firm’s mortgage business nationally. Weeks will have 10 client-facing employees report to her. “Penny brings real depth to her role as regional director and a fresh perspective in serving our clients,” Gorman said in a press announcement. “We think her experience and energy will also help drive growth of our private banking business in the region.”

Earlier this month BNY Mellon announced the promotion of 25-year company veteran Ridgway Powell to a new position leading the firm’s team of advisors to ultra high-net-worth families and family offices.

Soon after that announcement, Andrew Tepper, a senior portfolio officer in the firm’s Philadelphia region, was named to that team.
