BNY Mellon Wealth Management has added a new senior officer to the Mid-Atlantic mortgage banking group. David Duffy joined the group as a sales director and will be responsible for the firm’s residential mortgage business in the Mid-Atlantic region, focusing primarily on Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., the wealth manager announced Tuesday.

Duffy is based in Philadelphia and reports to Erin Gorman, managing director for national mortgage sales and private banking in the Northeast region.

Duffy joins BNY Mellon from PHH Mortgage/UBS Mortgage Banking, where he served as a mortgage sales consultant for more than two years and provided lending services nationally. Prior to that, he was a residential loan agent with GMAC Mortgage Direct Lending in Fort Washington, Pa. He also owned and operated his own mortgage firm in Atlanta for more than nine years. All told, he has more than 23 years of experience in the mortgage banking industry, according to BNY Mellon.

“Our mortgage business has greatly expanded over the past few years and we believe David brings the skills and experience to help us build on that momentum of growth in the important Mid-Atlantic market,” Gorman said in statement.

The new hire follows a staffing change announced in November to boost sales efforts in the Mid-Atlantic region. The firm promoted a managing director, Garrett Alton, to a newly created role overseeing the firm’s sales teams in Pennsylvania and Washington. He moved to Philadelphia from Atlanta for the new role.

The firm has also steadily added staff to its office in Washington, D.C., since it opened in November of 2011, including the addition of Christopher Ross as senior portfolio manager to lead client relationships and investment strategy there. The Washington office has a total of 11 staff members, up from five last year, according to BNY Mellon.

BNY Mellon Wealth Management has nearly $178 billion in private client assets and an international network of offices.
