Investment Centers of America named Jim Komoszewski to the newly created position of regional manager and senior vice president of its practice management program.

The program is designed to help advisors improve their efficiency and profitability by providing them with technology and tools to help them better manage their practices.

One of Komoszewski’s top goals is to create the “most comprehensive practice management at a broker-dealer level,” he said in a telephone interview. Most broker-dealers are good at telling advisors what they need to do to increase efficiency, he said. He plans to take that one step further and walk advisors through the process of taking action. “We don’t just point you in a direction. We’re going to help you do it,” he said.

He compared his approach to a health practitioner who advises a patient to go to the gym. His brand of practice management would identify the gym, find a personal trainer and develop a personalized workout plan, he said.

Prior to joining ICA, based in Bismarck, N.D., Komoszewski served as first vice president and director of practice management with National Planning Corp., part of the National Planning Holdings broker-dealer network. In that role, he created and implemented a platform that offers customized practice management coaching and consulting solutions for advisors, according to ICA. Before joining NPC, he was a regional vice president with Jackson National Life Insurance Co.

In a statement, Greg Gunderson, president and CEO of ICA, lauded Komoszewski’s “impressive practice management background and his accomplishments within the NPH network,” noting that he was the perfect choice to lead the firm’s effort to help keep “advisors’ businesses running smoothly and efficiently.”

As of the end of last year, ICA had 364 advisors and 41 platform representatives and represented 276 financial institutions with $11.4 billion in assets under management, according to the 2012 Annual TPM Study by Kehrer Saltzman & Associates.
