Welcome to the biggest issue of Bank Investment Consultant that we've put together in my time here. Fittingly, it's also one of the most important. Last year I proclaimed our annual retirement issue to be the most important of the year. This year, we've packed even more important — and actionable — information into an even bigger volume.

Our cover package this month consists of two features: The first, by writer Lauren Barack, puts a twist on the usual preparedness article. Instead of looking at your clients' situation, she looks at yours. Bank advisors don't have the options that many independents do, or many wirehouse advisors for that matter. Turns out, many need help — and Barack lays out the winning strategies being used by some bank advisors.

The second feature, by Associate Editor Margarida Correia, takes the more traditional practice management angle, illustrating by way of three case studies how advisors helped real clients dealing with a number of retirement issues.

But wait, there's more. Two of our departments are bookends of sorts: One looks at "millennial" investors, giving tips on what they can do now to get on the right track. The other has new insights on retirement income in unprecedented times as people live longer healthier lives. Plus, our Producer Profile highlights an advisor who scours for the low-margin business that 401(k)s can bring. Even our mutual fund charts focus on retirement — listing target — date funds best-suited for 60- , 40- and 25-year-olds.

To be sure, we have other articles this month. Ever wonder why some banks use referral strategies that are 30 years out of date? Ever wonder how to remedy it? Contributor Tom Kane has the answers. Ever wonder why you can never finish all the things on your to-do list, or even finish writing the list? It can make or break your career, so turn immediately to Rick Rummage's story.

We may enjoy bigger issues of BIC still this year — I hope we do — but we'd be hard — pressed to find more important matters to bring to you than retirement planning for you and your clients.
