TS-Associates said its software for precisely measuring the performance of high-speed messaging systems now can run on the Microsoft Windows operating system and can directly access stored data, to speed up calculations.

The developer of the Tipoff measurement services said its Application Tap card now supports both Microsoft Windows and direct memory access.

The new capabilities will help prime brokers and direct market access desks to provide clients with better metrics on speeds of executing orders, one at a time or in aggregate.

The Application Tap is a PCI Express card that enables the implementation of precisely timed software instrumentation with minimal performance overhead, the company said. This card is in its third generation hardware release on the Linux operating system, but is now available for the first time on Microsoft Windows.

A firmware enhancement allows direct access of memory stores. Previously, the Application Tap used a processor in a host computer to transfer data. This work this is now done by the firmware itself.

This reaises the maximum instrumentation message size from 64 bytes to 64 kilobytes, said Henry Young, TS-Associates chief executive. This will lead to “ever wider uses,’’ he said.

He said the firm is working on a 10 gigabbit version of the product “which we expect to be releasing in Q4 2011.”

Separately, TS-Associates said Catena Technologies, an Asia-based financial technology consulting firm, will market ultra-low latency benchmarking to its financial markets customers, using TS-A technology for financial markets customers.

Catena Technologies, based in Singapore, will provide consultancy services that leverage TS-Associates' TipOff appliance and Application Tap time-stamping cards.
